Thorncrown Trilogy

Poems by a special Thorncrown Chapel visitor

I. Inescapable Lord

I gave you to each other,
A long time ago.
You uncrossed the path I'd laid out,
and crafted oh just so.
You always thought you knew best,
And wandered your merry way.
Until at last I stopped you,
And required of you to stay.
For at the very last it's true,
That you are mine and I'm in you.

II. Meditation

We sat together in the dim,
And wondered at the name of Him.
We found ourselves at last alone,
In this sweet spot we call our own.
We can't explain the gift we're given
Or why we need this path to heaven.
We only know that God reveals,
His love for us, without conceals.
And reaches out His wholesome grace
And with His Hand He strokes our face
And lifts us up beyond the sky,
So that together we may fly,
Above the fields and pine trees rife,
As we escape a perilous life without
Our Lord, from heaven above - come down
To earth and bestow Your love.

III. Thorncrown Chapel

Oh, Thorncrown mine, what gift thou givest
As in your space our Lord does liveth.
What miracle this beyond compare.
Please come to me and leave despair,
For I am yours, forever true
And You I need, and always You.

Elizabeth DuVall Armes

Elizabeth DuVall Armes was a very special visitor to Thorncrown Chapel. While sitting in the chapel, she wrote to poems above and gave them as a gift to God.
