Blake Poleynard
The TC Journal profiles a radiologist and muscian who loves Jesus.
In this edition of the Thorncrown Journal we are spotlighting a dear friend of mine, Blake Polynard. Blake and I used to organize prayer meetings together in college. That was a long time ago. What Blake has gone on to do in God’s service is an inspiration to us all.
Blake, a radiologist, has joined with other radiologists and sonographers to form an organization called UnitsUSA. They use ultrasound as a tool to spread the gospel to undeveloped nations. Blake and other doctors take portable ultrasound units to countries such as Belize, Ethiopia, Mexico, Kenya, Honduras, El Salvador, and Togo. There they assist in diagnosing various illnesses, share the gospel and the love of Christ.
Recently, Blake took a trip to Honduras. He had this to say about it.
“February of this year I was able to take a portable ultrasound unit into mountain villages and other remote locations in Honduras on a Volunteers in Medical Missions (VIMM) experience I shared with my daughter, Sarah. It was great to have the diagnostic aide of ultrasound available in these locations, about half of which did not have electricity. We were able to meet a few of the many health needs of these gracious people, but the opportunity to give and receive a “cup of water” in the name of Jesus was the highlight. At the end of one clinic a group of grateful villagers filled our clinic room and prayed for us!”
As Blake described, those who go to serve the lord go to change lives, but the life that is changed most is often their own. For more information on UnitsUSA, please click on the link below.
When Blake is not traveling the world, he often can be found jamming with a Christian rock band called The Magnetic Resonators. The Resonators are loaded with talent. I was impressed with the wide variety musical styles in their repertoire. In their songs you will hear a bit of jazz, rock, Latin, and blues. The Resonators lyrics are hard hitting. They will make you think, pray, and worship.
On the Mag Res website you can download a selection of their songs. Pay close attention the guy on lead guitar. That is Blake.
I asked Blake why he does all this for the Lord. He replied:
It has been a desire for some time that God might use any gifts and talents that he has given toward his purposes. While we were at Baylor together, I remember you praying with me that my guitar playing might be used for the Lord's glory. Similarly, I hoped that my practice of medicine could be an extension of who I am in Christ. This desire that I might worship the Lord in all that I say and do is met with resistance from the flesh and from our enemy. Because the One who is working in me is greater than these road blocks, I have confidence that God can and will use me.
In recent years I have learned how important being connected to the Body of Christ is in enabling me to be a part of his work. Without the fellow believers that God has provided striving with me toward the same goals, I am sure that my efforts would be very limited.”
Blake is a man who obviously loves the Lord. That love is translated into love for his neighbors. His talents are a gift from God that he gives back to God. I would encourage us all to learn from this humble servant. Find out what you are good at, and then use it to bring some good to God’s kingdom. In doing so, God will fill your life with joy.
